For the last five years, L's social life had been dead, at best. Sure, people tried to revive it now and then, but the most lively attempts by far were courtesy of Kankuro. He tended to even beat out Mello when it came to sheer gall. Sure, most people knew that taking an autistic man to a carnival and leaving him on a roller coaster was a bad idea. But Kankuro wasn't "most people." The fact that he both seemed to care for L and be amused when his own sadistic streak got the better of him was actually interesting to L, and that was why he continued to tolerate Kankuro's presence even though he ended up catatonic with Kurenai angry at both of them half the time. Well... mostly Kankuro... even though it was equally L's fault.
He waited by the door, his feet stuffed into his red converse sneakers (minus socks, naturally), wondering where Kankuro was planning on taking him and feeling slightly guilty for the fact that Kurenai didn't know. Ah, well. At least he had his cell phone, fully charged, in case something went wrong.
