I am a womens studies major at UMASS Amherst. I am doing a final paper on "feminine products" and i was wondering if any of you knew of any feminist theory, sociology theory, or theory in general (books, articles, etc) that speak to the idea of menstrual products and contriversary surrounding cups, tampons, pads, etc ( Read more... )

Hey, I'm a fellow Scrapbooker (though I haven't posted anything yet), and I thought The Curse by Karen Houppert would help you a lot in your research. Houppert investigates how the sanitary products industry manipulates women so the industry earns more. Or something like that. :)

lol, Thanks! I believe that The Curse is currently out of print. I have a copy on order from another library in Boston, but i won't get it until after winter break, and after the paper is due.. But i still want to read it! I am going to be continuing my research and presenting it for a seminar in the spring so i want to keep learning!

I forget that people actually look at the journal part of this. I normally just use it as a way to transport ideas and papers from computer to computer that i can get access to anywhere that i have internet access.. I can lose a thmb drive, i can not lose my livejournal lol

ah, yeah this paper kinda ended up flopping - BIG TIME! i just ran out of time in the semester, but the info that i got was amazing.. i am building a presentation that i can do to let people know about alternative care products and spread the word. its kinda turned into a little hobby of mine lol.. "accidently" dropping my diva cup (in bag) during class so people talk to me about it.. its fun

i've had that happen a couple of times - running out of time in the semester. and i understand about the hobby by accident thing too. people at school were clueless about safer sex and women's health and all. somehow i applied to be a sexual health educator at my school and now i hold workshops on various topics depending on the audience and what they want to know.

you might be done with your work, but...

capitalizing on the curse by ea kissling

our revolution has style: menstrual activists doing feminism in the third wave.... or something similar-sounding, a journal article by chris bobel. look it up on google scholar

i'm doing very similar work, as i said in the cups community a moment ago... i've amassed a pretty big collection of sources if you are looking for more stuff.

i did a research paper last year about the interplay between product advocates and product manufacturers, according to their discourse. i isolated 4 themes - environmentalist, women's health, anti-corporatism, and feminist spirituality - and sorted through manufacturers websites, activist websites, zines, and all sorts of books ( ... )

lmao i totally understand about the whole once you start talking you can't stop thing!!! There is a reason that i am doing it in another class!!! unfortunatly its looking like tampax is the best option for the girls in africa beacuse of everything else that they are getting from it. But i would rather them use a pad with like a bio-corn plastic instead of the regular plastic that they have on pads so it burns cleaner.. but i am just in the start of my research...

Could i borrow your works cited page?
