So, I'm either a very vulgar, or a very stupid, yet sensitive, man. The things that I notice, and genuinely want to comment on are always a recipe to get myself in hot water. Let me explain: for instance, earlier today, my coworker Lindsay walked into the vault from outside. Because we keep sensitive artifacts in the vault it is kept at or near ( Read more... )

Hmm. I enjoyed this. Re: your second-to-last paragraph, check out Ariel Levy's Female Chauvanist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch culture. It kind of explores how women are told or believe or whatever that they are now SO liberated that, in emulation of the typical man, they embrace sex-worker-culture (strippers and prostitutes) and how really, are we opressing ourselves more or is it liberation? Just another set of nicely made-up, sexy shackles? Anyway, I'm only about 50 pages in, I think, but it's fascinating and you might dig it ( ... )

that sounds good. there's so much to talk about; i spent pretty much my entire lunch period typing that out yesterday. it's just so weird. since i've been dating natalie i've noticed more and more how these things aren't always so... sexual. like with how you've noticed a part of your 'criteria,' so to speak, is partly based upon fashion which, if i may, has a lot to do with success (not neccessarily monetarily, but an image of, or rather a picture of), ease of being/how well one conducts themselves, and basic taste and personality. for instance, natalie and i saw a shockingly horrendous looking woman at the grocery store whose outfit (no exaggeration) had to cost at least twelve hundred dollars, and believe me, she looked atrocious.

give me a call sometime you're in the city (it's probably a lot more than i am in milwaukee, at any rate); natalie and i are going to old orchard and then to the ballet on saturday, but other than that...

With entries like this one, it almost doesn't bother me that this is the only LJ that I can still read. "Excellent observations" is how I'll start... like a compliment sandwich ( ... )

Interesting. I think that where i say, "...we just can't help ourselves," is the biggest truth of the whole post. Or, at least, I can't help myself. What I mean is that all of this looking, this comparing, comes completely from the mindset of, "what would it be like to fuck this person?" While I would completely agree that a lot of the 'masking' is because of a "staunch backing of the strong morality of the human construct that is monogamy," especially having been on the 'hurt' or 'used' end of such a construct many times, an even greater reason is the odd complexities of human society. In broad terms, it would be frowned upon if I tried to fuck my coworkers, girlfriend or not. Quite the way to become fired and sued, actually. Which, to the dismay of people I work or have worked with and all those I went to school with, this fantasy is ongoing and continuous. We've all had those thoughts in middle school: "what if i could stop time, strip down miss mary lou just to get a peek." I guess, it's less than upholding monagamy that ( ... )
