By the way, if any of you are familiar with traveling in Europe, I could definitely use some advice about railpasses, buses, and the like.
How does one best (and least expensively) get from place to place?

I have many friends in Europe. I will gladly get all the info you need. Gemphonics gemstone2709 these are AOL IM names for a my best friend in England she is a real sweet heart and if you tell her your my friend she will except you with open arms. I am telling this so you are comfortable just IMing her. You can also give me your Screen name and I will have her contact you. When are you leaving?

Terrific, thanks! My screen name is "momestorm," but I haven't been using it much of late...it would probably be safer if you just warned her that I might im her, and I'll get around to it once things slow down a little.

I'll be leaving for New York City on the 10th, and then London on the 17th.
:D

I was with a tour, but as far as going around London and Paris, get an all day pass for the Tube or the Metro. The first day I decided I was going to be a cheapskate and not pay my 5 pounds or whatever it was for the Tube pass. The hotel was in Russel Square, I walked it late at night, and wound up lost in West Minster. All in all I think I walked about 5 hours. I had to hobble for the next 2 days.

Congratulations on your trip by the way, I know you'll have a fantastic time. Speaking strictly for myself, I enjoyed Stone Henge and the English countryside immensely more than London. In Paris, the Palace of Versailles and walking along the Sein River, the Louve really wasn't that great. If you'd like some pictures I've still got my albums up. And if you're going to Beijing in the Fall Lexian would still be glad to help you out

Thanks! I am indeed going to Beijing in the fall, and I've been talking with Lexian a bit (though this past week has left me hardly any time to send off decent emails). :) Her English is fantastic!

Hm...I'll definitely look into getting tube/metro passes, then. I'll be in London for about three weeks, though, so if possible I might get ones that last a bit longer.

Eurail pass. Have you asked at STA travel?

No. For some reason I always assumed that an on-campus travel agency would focused mainly providing shallow tours to rip off naïve college students...I'll go check with them, though.

What sort of Eurail pass did you use? I've been looking at the different packages for some time now, and I still can't quite figure out which would be best for the number of countries I'm hoping to visit.

i actually never used one. however, the flexipass sounds like it'd be good for you. sta travel does help out with that stuff as well. they're actually pretty good.
