It's been a while. I finished my second semester in Nanjing a few weeks ago and will be returning to the States on the first of August after traveling around Asia for a bit. In the meantime, should you wish to find me, you could look here:

Plateau pika, or Ochotona curzoniae. Looks like a mouse but actually a lagomorph, like rabbits. :]

HEY LEE ANNE!!! So good to see a post from you. The animal thing looks really cute. I think you should smuggle one home in August.

Can't wait to see you here again. Sorry I'm terrible at keeping in touch. Too much going on. Miss ya so much though. =)

It's kind of crazy, actually--they're wild animals, but we've now been at this field site long enough for the babies to get used to us, and they come up and nibble at our pant legs.
Don't worry; I've been terrible at staying in touch with nearly everyone this semester. :)

Ah you still take beautiful photos! The things that your mom told me about your field research sound very interesting. I'm so glad you got to do so many fabulous things while in China!

Now come back and let me give you a big Dora hug ;)

The scenery really is incredible; I was quite pleased that my non-professional camera managed to capture it. Surreal.

A big Dora hug? hehehe.. wouldn't that be an oxymoron? ;D kidding!

:D

The work itself isn't really that exciting, to be honest--we sit/mosey around from 7am to 5pm in one area collecting plants and ogling pikas. The surroundings, though..impossibly beautiful.

i bet it's more exciting than you let on.

i do envy you the surroundings, too; *my* surroundings are far too suburban.

do these pikas have any relation to the little yellow pikachu on pokemon?

I believe so, but unfortunately these furrier cousins seem to be a bit less electric and rarely identify themselves with the infamous 'pikapika' call.

How are you and Shirley?!

We've been traveling. Grand Tetons > Yellowstone > Montana > Seattle > Olympic Peninsula > Columbia River Gorge > current location = Portland, Oregon. BUT. I was reading a sign in the Columbia River Gorge and they had a picture of the America pika (!!!). I was like, Whoa dude. I just saw pictures of Lee Anne's pikas!
