Abilities

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?

Naomi’s always possessed a sharp eye for noticing things are out of place in a crime scene and was stated to have a "remarkable investigative ability". She’s very aware of when things just don’t seem right and she’s got a great gut feeling for when things and people are off and wrong. It would be great if this gut feeling could develop into something similar to a lie detector to the point Naomi could know someone’s lying to her and see right through them.

Weapons: Nothing aside from quick thinking and her Capoeira.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Here!

Having spent her childhood and teen years growing up in Japan, Naomi Misora decided to travel abroad to the USA. It was here she trained and eventually became a well respected FBI agent. It is also in the FBI where she met her fellow agent, boyfriend and to-be-husband Raye Penber. It was when she was at the top of her game and career Naomi plummeted to the bottom. During a top case she was unable to pull the trigger and fire at the criminal in question - Thus the result of this was the criminal got away and part of her unit was harmed. However, it was a natural freeze up; the criminal in question had been no more than a mere child. Shooting a person so young, it was something she was unable to do. After this she was told (or rather forced) to take a leave of absence from the FBI.

It was during this time that she was suddenly contacted by L - detective and case solver extraordinaire. At first it was assumed to be nothing more than a joke, but this soon turned out to be false - It was the real deal. L was requesting her help. She would act as his eyes, ears and shield. The case she would be investigating was the L.A. Murder Cases - a series of close door murders that baffled police to no end. They seemed to be unsolvable but L hoped to prove this false. There were three victims so far and L predicted a fourth. This last murder was to be prevented at all costs - solving the case before its occurrence would be key to capturing the murderer.

During the investigation of one of the crime scenes Naomi was startled to be confronted by a most peculiar man. Ryuzaki, as he wished to be called, was extremely suspicious but under the wishes of L she complied to work together with the “private detective’ supposedly hired by the victim’s relatives to solve the case. Throughout the whole case she remained suspicious of Ryuzaki, the strange jam loving, floor crawling man until the very end when she had an epiphany. Just before the last murder would take place it all clicked - everything she had believed about the case, everything Ryuzaki led her to believe - was false. Ryuzaki was B - the person L had told her was responsible for the murders and B, or Beyond, would be the last murder. Rushing to the room she had left him to keep an eye on she broke the door down, only to be greeted with a wall of smoke and flames. Putting the fire out that B had lit upon himself not only was his life saved but the killer of the Los Angeles Murder Cases was caught.

Fast forward and B is forgotten to the world - there’s a new killer who’s caught the public’s attention. They’re known as Kira. It’s also during this time that Naomi and her fiancé are planning to wed. There’s talk of a family and everything is going well, but once again Naomi’s life is turned upside down. Raye Penber was murdered - dreams of a family and future completely shattered. He was killed by Kira, it was assumed, and Naomi made it her goal to get to the bottom of the matter. Using the information gained from Ray she continued to follow his leads, figuring out the answer to not only who Raye’s killer was, but the identity of Kira - far before anyone else. But this knowledge came with dire consequences. Yagami Light - the person Raye had been tracking was indeed Kira, and just like her would have been husband, she befell the same fate. Killed by the hands of Kira she turned her back on the killer against her own will before committing suicide.

She was never found or heard from again.

Point in Canon: After Raye’s death and Naomi is on the lookout for Kira, gathering clues. In fact, she’s just entered the police station on her way to demand to speak to the task force. She hasn’t met Light yet, but she’s moments away from doing so.

Character Personality:

Bright, beautiful, independent and sharp, Naomi is not one lady you want to underestimate. She’s not one to let people boss her around without good reason, and she has a fairly noble sense of justice. She is definitely not weak in mind, body or spirit and is quite able to defend herself using Capoeira. Despite being strong willed, and to some may come off as blunt when she’s doing her job, Naomi isn’t heartless. She can be quite cynical at times if she’s undermined or mocked and isn’t one to appreciate smart ass remarks (at least, remarks she feels are poking fun at her.) Of course, she’ll do her best to do her job and get it done and is rather dependable.

When it comes to certain matters Naomi can become quite compassionate and ultimately her one true problem is that she lets her feelings get in the way of investigations; it was her like for children and sense of morality and justice that made her freeze up from pulling the trigger on the child criminal who the FBI and other law forces had been trying to catch for some time. Despite this kid’s actions, Naomi believed he didn’t know any better - the streets had been all he knew. However, this compassion is only shown toward those who truly deserve it. She’s quick thinking and quite intelligent and the type of individual who will throw you for a loop when you least expect it. B’s downfall was due to the fact that he completely underestimated her intelligence and the fact she was able to piece the right parts of the puzzle to catch him just before he killed himself goes to prove just that. She has a “remarkable investigative ability” as quoted in volume 13 of the series and it’s this ability that is a factor which leads her to her death far too quickly.

In relation to L, Naomi has complete and utter respect for the man. L has her complete and utter trust and while their partnership started off rocky and she thought he was irritating, if not a bit too self assured, she put up with his orders and came to catch Beyond Birthday. L seems to come to respect her too and at the end of the novel, he runs up to her out of nowhere in an attempt to give her a hug. Of course, she kicks him down with her Capoeira, not knowing who he is, but the fact that L did so is something to take note of. Truly she was worthy of being his shield, even if she isn’t a ‘genius’.

While Naomi is smart her only downfall is perhaps she’s a bit too trusting. The fact she let herself be swayed by Light’s smooth talking and convinced to show him her real ID was her only mistake. If she hadn’t done so, Light would have been caught by Kira long before L’s death. Of course, Light however is a special case in a sense - Naomi has a great gut when it comes to sensing people who aren’t all there like B. In fact, she’s quite careful and always manages to keep a safe distance (as much as possible of course) between herself and her suspects. The less they can pry out of her, the better.

Naomi’s relationship with Beyond Birthday is an awkward one. Right from the start she did not trust him nor did she like him. Every little thing about him irritated her right from the start. He unnerved her, made her feel uneasy, but at the same time she was impressed by his intelligence. She still felt a bit displeased with him, but there’s a small amount of pity attached to that feeling knowing that such an intelligent mind was ruined beyond repair.

Lastly, if there’s one thing Naomi hates above all else it’s being held back and told how to run her own life. Raye, her fiancé was always telling her not to rejoin the FBI because it was too dangerous. Sure, she appreciated the fact that he cared and was worried about her because he loved her, but what she really wished was to not be treated as if she were a porcelain doll but as who she was - Naomi Misora - the smart, independent woman she is.

Character Plans:
First off, Naomi’s going to wonder where the hell she is. She’s going to try and gather as much information as possible about her whereabouts and try to get a job ASAP. She will probably join the police, especially after hearing that Kira is here. If she finds out L is here, she’ll try and help him and when she inevitably runs into Beyond she’ll freak out and probably kick him. (Okay so maybe she won’t freak out like that, but she’ll be really unnerved inside.) She’ll also try to figure out what’s going on with the Core and the two companies in Siren’s Pull. To put it simply: investigating, investigating, investigating.
