Attention Sci Fi Geeks

Feb 13, 2009 07:35

My awesome fellow sci-fi fans. I need your help.

What are your ideas for iconic sci-fi films from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s?
An iconic film from each decade.
With the exception of Star Wars

Preferably ones that aren't too obscure :)

Thanks :)

Soylent Green and Planet of the Apes are the first two that spring to my mind...

Are you excepting the Terminator series as well?

Including Slosh's suggestions.

Planet of the Apes and 2001: A Space Odyssey (both 1968).

Soylent Green (1973), Close encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Alien (1979)

Bladerunner (1982), Aliens (1986). I think everyone who was a kid in the 80s has a soft spot for The Last Starfighter (1984)

Stargate (1994), Ghost in the Shell (1995)

Pitch Black (2000)

Also, check out Wikipedia & Google

I know I have a soft spot for the Last Starfighter. That and the Dark Crystal.

Since Sci-Fi is such a broad topic, here's a few from each decade... some for general sci-fi tone/reflection of society at the time, some for special effects, and some that were just HUGE movies.

70s (aside from Star Wars, of course): Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Alien, Clockwork Orange, Mad Max, Superman

80s: Bladerunner, Aliens, Terminator, Predator, Tron, Back to the Future

90s: The Matrix, Terminator 2, Men in Black, Jurassic Park

00s: Pitch Black, 28 Days Later, X-Men, Spiderman, Batman: Dark Knight, V for Vendetta, (Watchmen?)

Are you also excepting the Star Trek Films? There are at least a couple for each of those decades.

Maybe also add Robocop, Starship Troopers and E.T.
