I thought I was dealing pretty well. I'm certainly less freaked out than Spanish and, although my heart races, I can cope with the shakes

This tragedy has made me want to return even more. This could have happened anywhere in NZ, so moving around the country isn't really a long term solution. Rebuilding right is. Good on you!
There's some welfare stuff that I could do (I'd be terrible at shoveling) but I still don't think any of my clothes are appropriate for wading through liquefaction and visiting badly damaged cities.
Thank you :) It is a shame - Christchurch is such a beautiful city and it will always be scarred. They will rebuild/repair some buildings (like the cathedral) but it won't be the same. They may end up looking the same but we will never forget what happened. I find the Cathedral to be very problematic. It is iconic and a tourist sight to see but they think 22 people were killed there. I'll find it very hard to reconcile a rebuilt tourist destination with a place where 22 people lost their lives.
The aftershocks aren't as scary as they were after the September quake. I think maybe I got used to them. We've had over 4000 aftershocks since the September quake. So my heart beats faster but I don't freak out anymore.

I can't imagine what trying to rebuild that beautiful city will be like. It is one of my favorite places in NZ.
Have you been weathering the aftershocks well?
Take care of yourself, your loved ones. I know you'll find comfort in the places you call home.
