I'm certain there are a variety of valid opinions on the difficulties posed by each fish/pond size combo possible in the old adage. Personally, I think the worst of all is being a small fish in a small pond. Small ponds, in my experience, have a much higher big fish : small fish ratio. Oh, man! I'm so sorry if I made it sound as though my friends are horrible people, because they're not! (Although, I suppose at some level I knew that it would come across that way, which is why I posted it here instead of FaceBook...) They're always kind, even to a fault (this is Iowa, after all), but my incompetence really is self-evident. If anything, they trust me too much, and I'm constantly failing to be worthy of that trust, and they're too nice to say so. The only time I've ever been explicitly laughed at for one of my ideas (that I can think of) was by someone I'd only just met, and haven't developed all that much respect for since. It's like living with my mom all over again-people are so nice that I can't trust their praise and all I ever have to go on is their silence, and my own perceptions. Damnit, I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't have written this at all. I can't even vent right.

Sounds like things are really rough right now- I have a little feeling that you are being harder on yourself then anyone else is but I don't know if that is any consolation. Hugs to you!
