Machine Knitting To Dye For workshop

On Saturday I spent all day with Janine, Lala, Rachael, and Nancy at a fabulous workshop by Nancy Roberts (two Nancys) of Machine Knitting To Dye For. Check out her site for classes, kits, and lots of inspiration.

We started by machine knitting blanks of wool in the morning. I chose to do blanks for socks and a skein of my homespun yarn. The knitting allows you to plan out the kind of color changes you want in your final project. When you are done, the knit fabric is unraveled and reknit as the intended project. After lunch we talked about colors and jumped into painting what we had just knit.

Nancy Roberts has a wonderful studio full of inspiration.

Here is a group shot. Nancy is hiding in the back corner, Nancy Roberts is middle left, Lala is front left, Rachael in the back right corner, and Janine in front left. I am holding the camera.

Here is our instructor with Janine in the background.

We all made fairly different projects. It was a lot of fun to see the variety.

Janine's project, I can't wait to see what it becomes.

Lala's project, I love her colors.

Rachael's gorgeous work, Nancy in the background.

My socks to be.

Somehow I didn't get a shot of Nancy's work.

It was a great workshop. Everything was so well organized and we couldn't have asked for a better instructor. She is very articulate and patient. I highly recommend this workshop.
