Less than a week left of being a student!

This is my last week of my rotation in Pt Augusta, and therefore my last medical student rotation ever! It is going to be a long week though, because as much as it's been fun, I'm really over the whole thing. I just want some holidays, and to be back at home with Tom and my friends. I didn't go into the hospital all weekend. I think I was probably supposed to show a little more interest, but I just wanted a break from the place. If they really needed me, they have my mobile number!

The photos are all up on my facebook - click here

Tom came up to visit me this weekend and it was soo good to see him. I missed him when we were apart, but having him up here with me made me so happy, and I certainly know why I am getting married to him.

On Friday night we ate my delicious risotto and then went for a walk around the block. I haven't felt safe to walk about on my own up here, so it was great to do some exercise together. I had terrible back pain (the same muscle that always bothers me) and slept quite badly, and once I had taken some painkillers ended up feeling a bit high, which isn't a good thing in the middle of the night. The other reason we slept badly, was the noise of some drunk bogans outside in the street. We could hear them yelling from a long distance away, then they started having a domestic right outside our place. I texted our friend Darius who is working as a cop up here - we knew he was working on Friday night. We were very relieved to hear sirens, as two cop cars pulled up and arrested them. Apparently someone else complained (in the usual way by calling the station!) as Darius didn't get my text til his shift was done. I watched the action through the curtains and took video, while Tom sang the theme song from COPS.

On Saturday we climbed Devil's Peak. It's a 600m tall hill about 9km out of Quorn. It's quite steep in places, particularly towards the summit where you have to clamber over rocks. We had a great time, and the views from the top are magnificent. We then drove over to Wilmington, another small town in the Flinders Ranges, to eat lunch at the bakery. We had a look in the antiques store, which revived my interest in nice china - I'm in search of a beautiful teacup and saucer set. There are so many to choose from but they are quite expensive. I can see that as soon as I buy one I will want to start a collection! We didn't visit the Wilmington toy museum, as we weren't keen to pay for admission. We came back to Pt Augusta, where I showed Tom around the centre of town including the hospital. This town is very shut during the weekends. The supermarkets are open long hours though, so we did some grocery shopping.

That night we ate pizza from the local take-away, which was delicious (cheers Vince!) followed by Maxibon icecreams (I may have converted Tom muahaha!) and went over to see Darius before he started work and hung out. He seems to be very happy living here. He has more bikes in his house than Tom, including a unicycle, which Tom had a go on. Looks like it involves a lot of skill!

Today we cooked pancakes for breakfast then went for a walk to work them off. We ate lunch at Subway, then went for a drive to the west side of town. We climbed the historic water tower which no longer has any water but it's a great lookout. There is a skate park opposite, so we hung out there and watched the BMX kids doing tricks. Some of them were awesome. Then it was time for a sad farewell, Tom got back on his motorbike and rode back to Adelaide. I spent a few hours feeling quite nervous about his safe arrival, and he did arrive safely. Phew!
