Have been thinking about making a knitted toy from an Edward Gorey illustration for my sister's birthday. It isn't going to happen - not enough time - but in the hope that I might manage it for Christmas this is a link-dump of toy patterns etc. for techniques and inspiration. Difficult to know what Gorey creature to use though - E. suggested the Doubtful Guest, which is the most obvious and best option, but I was also thinking of one of the gloomy drapey black bat-like creatures... hmm...
Mochimochi Land free patterns - she also has
this splendid free Miyazaki-esque wood creatures free pattern in Knitty.
Pasha the Penguin - which I made for Dad for Christmas a couple of years ago; he named it Sir Harbottle Grimstone, I have no idea why (it's a historical name, I must have been telling my family about my weird historical names thing). Mine was not quite so rotund - I need to learn to make friends with overstuffing.
Donna Wilson's knitted odd-bod bunch - which I bought, I couldn't resist it. Ginger cat on the cover is first on my list. The raccoons and foxes are great, too. Birthday presents for all! (you can see more of the end results
here.
Undressable turtleNorberta the dragonstuffed nautiloidsKate the cat - been wanting to make this for years, not sure quite how I've never done it...
Ladybirds and sunflowers - a bit more trad but still rather nice...
Various dinosaurs - have made several versions of these with varying success. Never tried the triceratops, I think because I had a stuffy toy triceratops as a child (called, with great imagination, 'Triceratops') and no knitted triceratops could ever match up.
