Mass Effect 2 - Early Impressions
I only just starte playing Mass Effect 2 last night, I certainly haven't played enough to o any sort of proper reviewing, so I'm just gonna upate this post with my impressions as I play. Beware of potential spoilers! (And I haven't played much past Freedom's Progress, so please, no spoilers for me either.)
• As I mentioned in my post last night, Joker's return, combined with the unveiling of the Normandy II, made me nearly cry. I knew I was emotionally invested in this series, but I didn't know I was so invested in a freaking ship. And Seth Green is just cheating, cos he's Oz.
• The moment was, I'm afraid, somewhat ruined by the appearance of EDI, mainly because, again, as I mentioned, she looks like a blue talking vagina.
• I also choked up when Tali first reappeared. I suspect this is going to be a running theme.
• I didn't realize I was so emotionally invested in Shepard, either. I imported one of my saves from ME1, a Paragon I took up to level 56, and I've gotten wibbly multiple times, especially when she dies. My heeeaaaart.
• I'm a little skeeved out by Cerberus. Actually a lot. I know they make some references to Cerberus having harsh methods and being seen as a bad guy, and Shepard refers to them as terrorists, but... so far the game seems to be making them out to be well-intentioned people who aren't afraid to cut corners and break rules for the sake of the greater good, not unlike the Spectres. But in the first game, every single time Cerberus gets mentioned, it's in the context of them doing horrible things to people, usually to innocent human colonists. I'm pretty sure the last time a Spectre did that, there was a whole game that revolved around hunting him down and stopping him. Is this going to be addressed at some point, or are we supposed to accept that Cerberus are just 'misunderstood'? For now, consider me seriously creeped out.
• Are Shepard's facial scars supposed to glow, or is my TV just being weird? Cos it looks like she has radioactive acne.
• I have been spoiled enough that the words 'Recruit Archangel' make my sit up and wag my tail like a malfuncitoning robot puppy.
• Aria. FUCK. ARIA.
• Mordin you are my new favorite.
• Thus far I have mixed feelings about Miranda, mostly because of my mixed feelings about Cerberus. I like her as a character, but I don't think my Shepard likes her much at all. XD I keep picking Renegade options in dialogue with her, just to be a dick. Jacob I like well enough, but he's kinda bland so far. Beats the hell out of Ashley, though
