a little help over here please :)

I have two quick questions to post (I just spent my lectures thinking about them and now have to go to another)

a) How can I convert files to .mp4 so i can put them on my iPod? Particularly .avi and .divx :D

b) I am using a mac (OX 10.4.something) and would like a free program for capping video files, any suggestions?

Thank you!! ♥

flist, help

I'm not sure about converting files, but screencaps are easy. If you want a fullscreen cap, it's a keyboard shortcut. Just use command+shift+3 for that one. And then use cmd+shift+4 for a section. On the second one, a selection tool should come up and you choose what you want. The only time I've found that these don't work is in the DVD program, and I haven't figured out how to fix it except to use the VLC player for DVDs. Hope that helps at least a little!

for a), i use a program called "videora ipod converter," just type it into a search engine and you should be able to download it for free. i'll update this comment with the link if i can, later! i use it to convert my .avi files all the time :) i think there's slight quality degradation involved but it's not extreme; obviously it's better to watch the original product on your computer than on a teeny screen (if you have a video nano like i do) but i get by haha.

for b), you can use the "print screen" function, which on my laptop (not sure about a mac) is pressing the 'function' key + 'print screen' which is somewhere above your number pad (if you have one, otherwise it's floating somewhere in that general area with the delete/insert/home/end fuctions). otherwise you can use VLC media player (which you can also download for free) which is what i use.

hope that helps!
ps windows for life! :P

Macs don't have a print screen key sadly, but I have that figured out now :) and the videora was great until I realised you can't use it on a mac either. But I found a similar program which you can.

Thank you anyways ♥ ♥

Don't know if you still need it, but I think I use the exact same computer & OS as you so..

a) avi to mp4, I use iSquint. It's faster than HandBrake (for DVDs to mp4) and pretty straightforward.

b) capping, I use FreeSnap. For manual capping it's pretty straightforward, but I still don't know how to do automatic capping.

Good luck, Kelly!
