Summary: Scotland wasn’t always mean to England.
A/N: For Kira.
When they were very young, Scotland actually cared about all of his brothers. Yes, that included England. He actually liked him the best, but as they both grew, Scotland somehow became jealous of his youngest sibling.
However, when he did care, he loved to hug his baby brother.
Before the times of magic and the wars and the things the boys would have to endure in the future, Scotland was protective of the baby. He was a very young country, looking like a seven year old would, with bright green eyes and striking red hair, and a proud posture that demonstrated his confidence.
The baby would always smile when Scotland came around and cried when Wales poked him on his tummy. Northern Ireland would indifferently look at him, but would eventually pat his head when he couldn’t take it anymore.
One time, when the boys were going to celebrate the baby’s birthday, they each made him something. Since they were still young and innocent, they didn’t know you could buy gifts, so they opted for giving a handmade one instead.
Wales made little England what he called a wand and explained to him that he could use a thing called magic with it and change things. England, with wide green eyes, took it in his hands and began to point at things, believing he could do it.
Northern Ireland made a figurine out of a potato that looked like England. It was rather small, but the baby still hugged it and began to suck on it.
Scotland’s gift turned out to be the fanciest of them all. It was a toy, which he called a ‘stuffed animal’.
“This is for you lad! It’s a unicorn. It’s a horse with a horn on its forehead. You can play with it all you want, and sleep with it, too,” he explained as the baby took it in his arms and began to pull on it.
“Be careful, though. You might damage it if you pull on it too hard,” Scotland said.
England looked at him and stopped pulling, choosing to hug the plush toy instead.
The baby squealed in excitement, enjoying his gifts by the looks of his smile.
As they grew, the brothers became rather distant, and the boys ended up bullying England as a child. However, England would not forget the toys they gave him. He still had the wand, which he used throughout his mage phase, and preserved the potato figurine in a safe place. He kept the stuffed unicorn in his room, though. Every night he would sleep with it, even as an adult, and kept it hidden from everyone so they wouldn’t see his favorite toy.
However, some memories never fade. When Scotland was going to pull a prank on England, he found the stuffed unicorn in his room and his heart softened a little, remembering that he had made it. What kind of a country would he be to destroy something so dear to his brother, something he made with his own hands for a baby? He might have been mischievous, but he had some honor.
So that day, he decided to delay his prank and let England have some peace.
A/N 2: In tumblr, there is this blog called
littleheadcanons, and one of them was that Scotland had made England a stuffed unicorn, which he slept with, even as an adult, and I fell in love with it. Which fit so well with this theme! I hope you enjoyed it!
