Kane Chronicles was a trilogy. The book made me chuckle a lot. Like the later HP books the series is getting darker as the characters get older. I had a feeling tjere would be a cliff hanger like the other books in this series. I liked that we were able to see the characters interacting in a lot of different combinations. I still liked the Annabeth and Percy chapters the best, maybe because they're old friends. You can't help but feel bad for Leo too. I am not as fond of Frank and Hazel.
I with he would release the books closer together than a year.
I know! That year wait is going to be rough. I thought he kept a lot going character-interaction wise in this one and it had to be a challenge with seven strong characters.
I definitely need to read the first two again, or at least the second one, before I tackle this one, or I will have no clue. I was going to get it for my Kindle but am feeling broke, so I will have to wait a while for a library copy.
I really like this series even more than the first Percy Jackson books - the characters seem rounder and the relationships have more depth. I wasn't as big a fan of the Kane Chronicles. I ended up taking the third one back to the library without finishing it.

I didn't really like the Kane Chronicles, either, and I also never finished the third one. I feel like I need to, just for completeness sake, but there are so many other things to capture my attention, that I haven't done it yet (I keep wondering if I'll like it better if I start over, but... )
I'm interested to see what he does with the Norse mythology, which is where he says he's going next. I think that could be lots of fun. :)
Honestly, I can't even remember if I finished the Kane Chronicles - it really underwhelmed me. I agree that this is the better series and since we have all the characters in MoA, I'd have to say it's my favorite of all his books so far.
I actually had just reread the previous books (ALL of them, from The Lightning Thief all the way through The Son of Neptune)...or, more accurately, I'd just finished listening to the audiobooks about a week before MoA came out, so it was all pretty fresh in my mind. I liked what we learned about the characters (I'm all about the characters), although, like proudofthefish, I'm not quite as fond of Frank and Hazel as I am of the others. I love Leo, but that's because he's snarky, and I've got a thing for snark (which is why I like Percy so much), and I think I like Jason and Piper more than I have before (and I've always liked them, which, after reading around in some of the PJO communities, is apparently unusual. There's LOTS of Jason and Piper-hate going on over there).
Also, I think Rick Riordan is evil. I was expecting a cliffhanger, but one more like the other books and not quite so...cliff-hanging as this one was. Is it October, 2013 yet?
I love Jason and Piper!!!!! This hate disturbs me and I shall pretend it does not exist. Actually I really like all the new characters, although Leo might be my least favorite of the biggies.
This was a big cliff! I can't believe it's going to be a whole year.
I thought Mark of Athena was going to be 3/3 too, had the same reaction as I was reading it and now I'm like 'damn when is the next one coming?' I think I'm going to have to read all of them again - you know for research purposes ;-)

You've reminded me! I need to get on the library's waiting list for Mark of Athena . . .
I am very glad to know that the series is NOT a trilogy. I thought it was. That will help when I do eventually get the book.
