"Don't you dare, so help me-“
"But, why not?" he whined, his tone emphasizing the pout on his lips. How manly.
"Because it is rude, not to mention perverted, to fool around-even quietly-with someone else-your best friend, I might add-in the room. No way. "
"Please?"
"No."
“Please?”
“He’s just a kid! I’m sure we scare him enough, already, as it is.”
"Wait. You're fine with it if we, say, leave the room and go somewhere else?"
She blushed. "I didn’t say ‘no’ to that, just to being in this room."
The bark scratches on her back that stung the next day led her to think more thoroughly about her future decisions.

There’s a painful thought lingering, festering in the back of the minds of men in the war-and that thought usually relates to a woman left behind. That woman fuels drive yet instills weakness.
Roy Mustang and Edward Elric sat, side by side-though a generous distance apart-sipping coffee from mugs entirely too small. Ed’s eyes were out the window, where they usually were. Roy was reading the paper. The company was enough, yet not even company. Comrades lingered in the small shop.
“Fullmetal,” Roy spoke as he rested his coffee cup back down on the table.
He didn’t look to his superior, still people-watching. “What.” It wasn’t a question.
“Why are you still here?”
Now he turned, anger in his eyes. “You bought me coffee-“
“Here. Now. In the war. Your objective has obviously changed. The main threat is gone.”
Ed shrugged. “It’s always been my brother, my family.”
“Why else?”
“Why does it sound like you’re fishing for an answer you already know?” Edward replied, rolling his eyes.
“Come on.”
“Why do I need anyone else?”
“There’s one more.”
“You want to talk about girls, Colonel Bastard? Where did this come from?”
The newspaper that Mustang had set down listed civilian casualties, more specifically, of a family that wasn’t even involved in the slightest with the war. Ed took notice of this.
Roy sighed, holding up his hands in defeat. “I know, I know. I can’t help but try to put myself in their,” he gestured to the paper, “position. What would I do? If my family perished when all I could do is watch helplessly?”
“Listen, I get it. But why torture yourself over something like this?”
“I understand what you’re going through. Never knowing if she’s safe.”
“You do, do you?”
Roy put up no front. “Like you haven’t noticed.”
“Look, I barely notice my own problems until they bash me on the head.”
“Rough problems.”
“At least I wouldn’t get shot.”
