He decided to never try and force healthy food down her throat ever again. The fight that ensued that one, fateful day he tried to give her vegetable soup-he didn’t know why it was this much of a fight, she ate well enough-but this particular soup set her off in ways he never saw. What was Nodame’s problem?
Chiaki wondered how they had gotten to this point. He straddled her hips, keeping her down on the ground while she thrashed around.
“Open your mouth and swallow!” Chiaki demanded. “Eat the damn soup!”
“Never!” she squealed. She had so much soup on her, permeating her white blouse, wetting her hair. He would need to give her a bath, his yippy puppy.
Chiaki frowned, realizing his thoughts had drifted to a dangerous territory. Nodame caught notice and shifted her hips under him.
She had a new light in her eyes. “Nodame’ll eat the soup…”

Whenever he shouted at her, around her, or about her, she was always stunned into silence. Asuka always believed that Shinji was a spineless weakling, incapable of manning up and growing a pair. That thought usually struck her when she was on a power trip. Ultimately, she knew that he shined in the worst of situations, pulling through when it was necessary. While he needed an immeasurable amount of prodding and courage-building from his friends and coworkers, it still happened when the situation looked bleakest.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, frowning at the broken plate he held in his hands. Asuka had slammed it down in a fit of rage, resulting in the scolding that had taken her off her guard.
She shook her head. “Sometimes I forget who you are, Third Child.”
“And that’s a bad thing?”
“You would like me to forget you, wouldn’t you?”
“Like I could ever forget you, anyway,” he mumbled, staring down at the plate. His outburst leveled the playing field, he supposed, but he was still left with a broken plate.
“I’ll buy another plate. I know how much you love playing wife,” she responded with a smirk, her usual bounce back.
He frowned and rolled his eyes. Sometimes Shinji wished they could live as normal teenagers. Most of the time, actually. When the world seemed normal, he was at his happiest (which wasn’t saying much, but the fact that the word ‘happy’ could sprout up at all was astonishing).
“Whatever you say, Asuka.”
