I need an app for the iPhone that will sync with my Google Calendar (and between me and the family, we have six different calendars). Further, I want to be able to update ANY of my various Google calendars from my iPhone

CompanionLink works really well but it's really pricey if you want to sync wirelessly, and much less so if you don't mind hooking your phone to your computer every day:
Yes, this. It took a long time for us to realize it, but yes, there is a simple way to do it. We have four Google calendars for the family, too, and use them everywhere, iPhone, home, etc.
I do have my iCal synced with my iPhone and that seems to work.
My problem is how do I update my calendar via my iPhone. When I tried to add a dentist appointment for my daughter, I could only select the "main" calendar and couldn't add it to her calendar.
It's free and has worked without glitch for me for the last 7 months.
But I'm pretty sure that you no longer need to use any third party app or site after one of their updates. I think this webpage has the instructions you need:
Yep, I seem to have the sync from calendar to phone down okay.
The reason I am considering an app is for the ability to create calendar events on other calendars from my iPhone. I haven't figured out how to do that via iCal.
Yes! This. I however had a metric fuckton of aggrevation with the online google docs and many people repeating them not at all working. I could get ONE of my subscribed calendars working for full iphone to google calendar OTA sync via caldav.
But these guys told me the thing (make sure to read the section titled "Multiple CalDAV Calendars") that made it all work for me. wonderfully. My calendar, my and K's shared calendar, and the calendars for all of my important peeps I share google calendars with all do the mostly right thing. the only lasting fail is that my view options are any one calendar or all calendars, but no groupings of calendars (such as my personal, work, and shared calendars but none of my sweeties').
