Dial a Cliché

anyone good with Clichés?

I just got off the phone w/ a client- and in asking him about my last invoice- he said, "well, I didn't expect it to be that much, I'm actually on my heels about it."

what the hell does that mean?
he's upset? he's broke?
I looked it up and can't find it anywhere. did he make it up?

i called a friend and she said it might mean that he's "thinking about it".. like when you rock back anf forth on your heels...

when you're on your heels you can pivot back and forth? so i agree with your friend that it means the same as "go back and forth."

thanks... that makes sense.
i've been so bummed about this since yesterday. The final bill I sent him was only for the remaining balance of the original quote plus an additional 2.5 hours -which he knew about before hand... there was nothing to be shocked about. people are jerks and expect to get everything for nothing. rrgh.

My guess is, if you are standing ready to run, you are on the balls of your feet, like in baseball or something when they get ready for play to begin. But if you get caught on your heels, you were standing unprepared, not able to move out the way catch the ball that sort of thing.
Bonus points for anyone who can tell me where the Phrase "The whole nine yards comes from" I know the answer, but do you?????
