& perusing the website's DVD section one evening, I came across Devil's Playground. I had never heard of it & it looked interesting, yet I didn't want to spend money on something I wasn't completely sure was worth it. Fast forward a couple days later to me in the video store, looking to rent Valley of the Dolls after just finishing the book. I go ( Read more... )

I really liked Control Room, which is in limited release. And, of course, F9/11 was okay but nothing you wouldn't expect. Same goes for Moore's The Big One, which I caught on cable this week. I also rewatched Capturing the Friedmans, which I LOVE (and is available for rental). Also available for rental and which I saw this week is Errol Morris' Fog of War, which was all right, but iffily structured. I also watched Crumb, Gates of Heaven and Spellbound, which are other of my favorites. Oh, and Stevie, which is good but difficult to watch and terribly depressing.

I know I'm forgetting some. This week I plan on finally seeing Super Size Me and on Friday The Corporation comes out, whcih I'm really excited about.

yeesh, you weren't lying! miss_plini July 12 2004, 15:34:48 UTC
I liked Capturing the Friedmans a lot, mostly b/c I know mainy neurotic, Jewish families like them & at times it felt to me like the video tapes were scenes I had seen in real life. I also liked the fact that the director started out making a completely different film. I've heard of Stevie, it's on either HBO or Cinemax, right? Super Size Me was great, I saw it a couple months ago & haven't eaten at McDonalds since (well I did yesterday but I use a hangover as a valid excuse. Are you a memeber of indiefilms? If not, it's pretty neat......

yeah, kids was in the early 90's... the one I'm talking about was made in (& this is guessing from the music, clothes & overall scenery) 1983 at the latest.

It sounds like you're talking about 1984's Streetwise, which was a project of renowned photojournalist Mary Ellen Mark.

You are fucking awesome!!!!!! miss_plini July 12 2004, 15:30:10 UTC
& I rarely use the phrase fucking awesome, so you know how excited I am that you are right!!!! I knew there was an "S" somewhere in the title, but I would've never guessed that. It's out on video & might soon be released on DVD (I signed up on amazon to alert me when). Thanks again....
