This story was brilliant. My husband and I would periodically make sure the other one of us knew a new bit was posted... :). Made our day Much better when we saw it. The details and character work was amazing, and very real-feeling...
I am shamelessly replying to you both as a unit: thank you so much.
I was totally mapping the elephant with this story -- I've never been interested in the Avengers side of the Marvel universe (X-Men and DD gal) and Brubaker changed that somewhat and the movie pushed it along, but writing it... totally different.
Simple food tour: take the 7 train into Queens and get off at a random stop to eat. (This line is on the 'Pathways of America' list along with the Lewis & Clark trail because of the sheer diversity on offer at each station.)
I'm a little surprised that I found myself in Avengers-land, but, hey, I can apply my existing fanficcy tendencies to a new universe, so, I suppose, it's all good. :)
Wait, wait, wait! I am not committing to a sequel! Just because the epilogue was trimmed to 600 words from the 3200 I wrote doesn't mean I'm doing another full story. At least not while my brain is mush from finishing this one. :)
As usual, your characters are so raw and real and you manage to convey both action on a massive scale and the niggling paperwork and briefings without letting it drag at all.
Can I also say thank you for making it so readable - I don't read the comics at all, but this is very easy to follow with just my knowledge of the films, (and being British I let out a little 'yay' at the mention of the RAF tornado :D ) That little glimpse of Bucky in the last couple of chapters was brilliant! In just a couple of words you have now made me 'ship Bucky/Natasha...

What a ride! I really loved all the comics homages (Modoc, AIM, etc.), and I still want to come to NYC so we can do a food tour. :-)
It was amazing and fun, and this Steve is now my head-canon.

I've been reading along too and mostly haven't been commenting because it would've been 50ish comments saying: AWESOME. AWESOMENESS!
Which is good, but not all that constructive! I loved the whole ride and so pleased about Bucky. Excellent news on a sequel! (Squee!)

(They're adorable. Effed-up ex-Soviet assassins in love. She wears the pants ALL THE TIME and he's never been happier.)
There was nearly an RAF Merlin earlier, but I changed it. ;)
Thank you so much for following along on this roller coaster. I'm glad you enjoyed.
