Haha. You know the fandom significant other meme? Glee is definitely one that "seduced me, fucked me over, broke my heart in a million pieces, and then laughed about it."
I think part of the problem is that Glee became so popular so fast, the show started doing all these things to keep viewers happy. That's why I prefer it when shows stay under the radar for a few seasons - enough viewers that it isn't canceled before it starts, but not so many that it becomes about keeping people from changing the channel and not about good and intelligent plotlines. I mean, Glee got big before it ever got anything.
I mean, okay, Glee was always OTT and silly and soapy, but it wasn't even consistently OTT and silly and soapy this season.
ETA (sorry about all the edits!): I wanted to add that even though I know a lot of viewers ended up unhappy anyway, I think just as many are fine with it, and the rest of us keep watching in case it gets better again.
