Someone on my flist once posted an entry so similar to this that for a moment there I wondered if this wasn't a meme. Which goes to show how fucking annoying and yet persistent this tendency is. It might not be a meme but man, it *should* be.

Spooky! *wonders how we go about starting it as a meme*

It's weird because the journal does look very pretty but it's impossible to read. I think part of it is comes from my 11 years of working in the graphic design field. Legibility was the number one rule we always went by.

Oh god yes! I perpetually have my journal set to "my style" explicitly because I can't stand the unreadable styles some people have. *shudders* I'm all about the reading and hate it when it's made harder than it should be.

My biggest peeve is any text combination that isn't dark text on light background. Because light text on dark background usually just looks fuzzy.

I didn't even mention that the text was very small. That I could live with; the color choices I could not.

It's not you - some of the more exotic layouts just turn me off completely. Black text on a white background may not be sexy, but folks need to understand that its so common for precisely one reason - it is the most readable format. If you can't abide a white background, then at the very least ensure you have high contrast.

3 cheers for black text on a white background!

I have several people on my flist whose journals I can't read for that same reason. Teeny tiny print, and so light I can barely see it. I have to read their entries in my in box. It really makes me wonder, if I can't read their posts or the comments, how can they?

*nods* Exactly. Doesn't it annoy them when they have to answer their own comments?
