Are we feeling a little ranty today? - Yeah, fuck you, too.

Before I throw my TV out of the window I'll rather type my laptop through the desk. So, I just watched a documentation about the low birth rate in Germany. Actually every woman should at least get 2.1 children, German women only get 1.4 (which gives a nice touch the arguments of some assholes who complain that all the immigrants "flood" this ( Read more... )

I agree with you, and I have four kids. If you don't want kids, you shouldn't have kids, and nobody should be giving you a hard time about it. I do believe in healthcare, kindergartens, and paternal leave, but I fully acknowledge the right not to procreate. Why should people who don't like kids be ridiculed for not having kids? I never got that.

I get the reverse, sometimes. People say, well, I'm certainly not doing my part to take care of the planet. To which I say, how much to they recycle? How much do they take public transportation instead of driving? Not only do I do all that, but so do my kids. mr_t00by is bigger on environmental stuff than I am, actually. *hugs him*

To have kids or not to have kids is a choice, and either way, nobody should be forced into or ridiculed about doing either. And I agree with you about the wtf? in targeting women and not men about the issue. Nobody should be targeted at all, if you ask me.

People tell you that becaus you have four kids you're not doing your part to take care of the planet? Huh? That's... that's weird. Really.

And don't get me wrong, I fully encourage kindergartens etc. Women should be able to get children and pursue a career, if they want to, and for that we need a better child-care system. Everyone should be able to live the live s/he wants to live.

And, although I can only judge from Mr_t00by, you did a great job on your children. And you're quite proud of them, aren't you?

I don't hear it all the time, but yeah, people have said that.

Women should be able to get children and pursue a career, if they want to, and for that we need a better child-care system.

Yep. Women who want kids AND a career shouldn't have to choose. What bugs me is that when women are in business or politics or something else public, they're asked, "how do you juggle a career and children?" Nobody ever seems to ask men how THEY do it.

And, although I can only judge from Mr_t00by, you did a great job on your children. And you're quite proud of them, aren't you?I don't know what I did; I'm the most hands-off mum in the history of the world. I didn't punish them (I tried the grounding thing, then decided it was pointless and had nothing to do with the reasons for the misbehaviour in the first place). I think it was mostly them. I just fed and clothed and trusted them to have brains in their heads enough to be themselves without me meddling in everything and telling them no all the time. And yeah, I'm proud as anything. I have to ( ... )
