No problem! Most people don't know anything about it. Its a headache related to Arnold Chiari Malformation (chiari malformation, ACM, etc) of which i am afflicted. Basically it happens because my brain is herniated out of my skull and sometimes blocks the flow of cerebral spinal fluid and the fluid can build up and also cause massive intracranial pressure and therefore a massively bad headache. Also for reference, see this post for a picture so you know what the hell i am talking about. http://www.livejournal.com/users/missbabyjane/22614.html the long and not so short of it. ;)
You can also see from the picture that basically my brain is JAMMED into my head and is starting to slip down into my neck. i call it the brain annex. Its just cuz i am so SMRT that i need more room for the brain!! ;)
Utterly grokking the pain. Nothing was helping yesterday, and every time I tried to lay down I couldn't sleep because it hurt too bad. Finally just stayed awake till I was totally incoherent and just passed out. At least it worked for 4 hours of sleep.
Yeah, i think its the barometric pressure changes--- does it to me every time. We had a significant weather 'system' come in yesterday and so i am assuming it is to blame. Who knows though.
and yeah, i like the brain annex one too. ;)
And i was just thinking how AMAZING we chiarians are that we can still manage to live through all this pain. i even made it to the corner store to get milk and toilet paper. sometimes i think we are so used to this horrible pain that we are able to endure more than most people ever could. And with me having lupus on top of all of this, i don't even understand what my threshold must be compared to most people....scary stuff.
RSD and arthritis for me. Yeah, the "pain scale" in the ER was funny, because I know damn well my 7 or 8 would have other people hauled away in ambulances, while I waited an hour for hubby to get home and take me himself.
Barometric pressure really gets me, then there's the fun of two noisy kids, and noisy cats breaking stuff, and hubby's video games, and ...
Do you have any diuretics? I know Milhorat et al use diamox (which reduces the production of CSF) and I find it helpful. I've also used diclofenac (anti inflammatory) and a thiazide type diuretic....less fluid = less chiari pain.
The steepling of your tentorium would give you a lot of pressure behind the optic nerve and sphenoid area.
i dont have any diuretics unfortunately...i have been meaning to ask Frim about the Diamox.....so i am trying the caffeine route right now. it generally will help a little-better than nothing. i do have some diclofenac that i take for the lupus and i will make sure to take the highest dose. i was also considering just painkillering myself up and knocking myself out in a couple hours if it does not get any better....we shall see. Thanks for the support as always. :)
