CHARACTER NAME: M'gann Morzz / Megan Morse / Miss Martian
FANDOM: DC Comics - Teen Titans
CHRONOLOGY: Issue 69 of the current Teen Titans run - she's just rejoined the Teen Titans after leaving for a time to infiltrate the Dark Side Club in disguise and free many metahuman teenagers being brainwashed and used in tournament fights.
BACKGROUND:DC canon holds that there are two different races of Martians, distinguished by their differing world-views. The Green Martians are peaceful philosophers, while the White Martians are vicious warriors.
When the White Martians began massacring their Green cousins, M'gann's parents sent her on a rocket to the Vega system. M'gann learned that another Green Martian refugee, J'onn J'onzz, had escaped the White Martian tyranny, establishing himself on Earth, and came to Earth herself.
This story is at least partly a lie. M'gann's true form is that of a White Martian, creatures believed to live only for war and conquest. M'gann, for reasons she has kept to herself, is an anomaly in this firm formula.
M'gann eventually came to Earth along with her parents and they were at some point captured along with dozens of other White Martians by the United States government. Many of the Martians, including M'gann's parents were subsequently executed. After being separated from her parents, M'gann adopted two new names on Earth: "Megan Morse", the English transliteration of her Martian name, and "Miss Martian", her chosen superhero identity - modelled after Martian Manhunter.
Megan later met the Teen Titans and joined the team during a rocky interim period. Her initial stay with them was brief, however. Hyper-sensitized to other people's thoughts as she wasn't used to being around creatures who were not intrinsically telepathic Megan overheard many thoughts about her from the others that hurt her deeply.
She fled in tears and quit the team relocating to Australia and basing herself in the Tanami Desert, where the arid terrain reminded her of her Martian homeworld. The Titans approached Megan in the city of Brisbane shortly after she had apprehended a villain. Robin, leading the Titans at the time, asked for Megan's help in locating one of their missing teammates - Raven. Megan admitted to having recently met with Raven, who had asked her to use her telepathy to scan the minds of former Titans in search of a "secret". Megan refused however, as reading the minds of "good people" violated the personal code of ethics she had built for herself in her time away. She didn't reveal Raven's location, but instead directed Robin's team towards another hero, Bombshell
Soon after the Titans had left however, Megan violated her own rules, scanning the minds of a number of former Titans. Having scanned Bombshell's mind, she discovered that she was actually a mercenary in search of a computer disk, which housed the life essence of the deceased Titan - Jericho. Megan tried to warn the other Titans, but Bombshell attacked her with an incendiary device, revealing her true White Martian heritage to the other Titans as she could not hold up her shape shifted form in the face of the Martian race's one weakness - fire.
Regardless, she proved to be a valuable asset to the team and aided them in bringing Bombshell down. Following the incident, Cyborg declared that she was once again a member of the Teen Titans. Cyborg later brought Megan with him to Belle Reve in the hopes that she would use her telepathy to interrogate the imprisoned Bombshell. Megan was reluctant to use her powers in such an invasive way, but agreed to the task nonetheless. Her interrogation was interrupted, however, by the arrival of the villainous Titans East team. During the battle, Megan became the object of torture for Titans East members Sungirl and Inertia.
Following the Titans East incident, Megan and the other Titans found themselves involved in the Amazon attack on Washington D.C. While her teammates attempted to reign in an angry Wonder Girl, Megan engaged in battle with Wonder Girl's best friend, Supergirl. She later fought with Artemis and saved Wonder Girl's mother Helena from being gunned down by overly ambitious soldiers.
Shortly thereafter, Megan encountered her future counterpart - an older, evil version of Miss Martian who embraced her more predatory White Martian instincts. Calling herself the Martian Manhunter, the older Megan was a member of the so-called "Titans Tomorrow".
After an extended battle with her future self, trace elements of the evil future Megan's personality merged with her own persona. She was now possessed of the mind of her 'evil self' and frequently found warred with her older, darker persona internally. The alternate personality began assuming control of M'gann's body at times and performing actions independent of M'gann's will. She even forged legal documents establishing that "Megan Morse" was a legal citizen of the State of Arizona. Taking some advantage of the 'gifts' from her other self, Megan used the forged ID to begin attending classes at Wolfman and Perez High School.
Soon after, Megan and her fellow teammate Kid Devil were abducted by the Terror Titans team and taken to a place called the Dark Side Club in Manhattan - an underground tournament where kidnapped heroes were brainwashed into fighting each other in arena combat so that rich socialites could bet on them. Though Kid Devil was manipulated into participating in trials of combat, Megan's martian physiology shook off the drugs she had been given and she used her telepathy to try to free the minds of other brainwashed prisoners. Megan helped Kid Devil to shake off the lingering effects of being brainwashed and together the two escaped, with Megan promising to come back for the others.
Megan still suffered great difficulty coming to terms with embodying the personality of her future-self. As such, she decided to leave the Teen Titans in order to concentrate on her emotional and physical shortcomings - or at least that's what she told the others. In reality she spent a great deal of time infiltrating the Dark Side Club, posing as a new incarnation of the Star-Spangled Kid. She won the tournament, and then used her psychic abilities to overpower the brainwashing that the others had suffered at the hands of Clock King who was running the tournament. Under her leadership, the freed heroes overthrew both the club's resident staff, and the Terror Titans who had been attempting to start a brainwashed metahuman army.
Following this M'gann finally returned to the Teen Titans as a full-time member.
PERSONALITY:
Megan is an incredibly passionate person who seems to be eagerly attempting to reform herself into something better than what she was born as. Although White Martians are known as a murderous Race Megan has rejected that vision of her life quite thoroughly, to the point of being horrified by meeting her evil future self in the Titans of Tomorrow storyline.
She likes puppies and kittens and sunshine and happy things, eternally positive and refusing to give in to anger and revenge fantasies, even against the humans who slaughtered her parents.
Although she is naive about much of earth culture still she is fiercely intelligent and determined underneath the gaps in her knowledge of the world she is living in. Basic human values of life and hard work come easy to her and she has taken on large and personally difficult challenges multiple times for the benefit of others.
Still struggling with her evil inner self she is getting stronger against her other personality and determinedly subdues the 'evil' part of herself in an almost feverish drive to do good for the world as a hero.
On top of all of this though her inexperience gives her a sweet and childlike demeanor at times, appreciating simple things and trying to see the good in all people.
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: Miss Martian
ALTER EGO: Megan Morse, regular teenager!
POWER: >In canon Megan has all the same abilities as the Martian Manhunter which is, quite honestly, a metric FUCKTON of powers. She's an effortless and extremely versatile shapeshifter, an incredibly skilled telepath with the ability to alter others' perceptions of reality and break or block mind control being imposed on herself or others, and she is strong and indestructible on the same level as superman. She can also fly and fire energy beams from her eyes. Her one weakness is the White Martian's built in psychosomatic fear of fire. Over-exposure to flame paralyzed her with fear and she becomes unable to even so much as hold a shapeshifted form (and shapeshifting for her is as natural as breathing. Forget being able to use her other powers. Hell of an Achilles heel. - For the purposes of cape and cowl Megan's powerset will be reduced just to shapeshifting, telepathy and super strength.

[Megan appears in front of the camera after a moment of fiddling and iffy focus. She's in her human guise. No need to be blatant until she knows more. Red hair in braided pigtail, a freckled button nose, and a nervous smile on her face she waves a bit at the camera. She looks young, fifteen or sixteen, and speaks like she might even be younger.]
Uhm, hello. My name is Megan and I'm looking for someplace to stay? I don't have any money right now but I'll find a way to get some soon I hope. I'm still trying to get my bearings. At least I still seem to be on Earth....
I'm glad to help if I can. Is anyone else lost right now too? I don't know much more than anyone else who just arrived but there's no need for us all to be alone right? We should stick together till we can get our feet under us!
THIRD PERSON:
(This is an example post from another rp -
dc_nation where I play Megan with an alternate background where she grew up inside a dimensional prison known as phantom zone - in this post she is staying with friends of Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes in El Paso Texas and has only been on earth for a few weeks. I chose this because I felt it was a pretty good example of her personality but if it's not acceptable please let me know and I will write something new.)
It's been three weeks that feel like a lifetime.
Gloria insists that Megan isn't imposing but she's really starting to feel as though she is. She spends much of her time when Paco or Brenda or Jaime haven't dragged her off somewhere curled up in her room, reading or watching things, trying to gather all the information she can about what it's like to live on one's own. Much of what she finds hasn't been useful, a lot of humorous top ten lists that she doesn't understand half of, cultural jokes she has yet to grasp.
But in the meanwhile, in order to feel like she's giving SOMETHING back, she's taken to watching after Carlos when Gloria is busy around the house. For such a young boy he knows a lot about the world and the questions she asks him provide her with a lot of insight about common things that the others assume she is aware of when she is merely too embarrassed to ask. In some ways Carlos is a little more on her level. He's taught her about how to work the fiddly hot and cold knob in the shower, how to dance to the music on the radio, how to play simple board games, and about the hidden hazards of closets and beds that she was previously unaware of.
That last part about the closets and beds is what has her still awake at 2:00 am writing a very concerned e-mail to Zachary Zatara on her laptop.
Dear Zachary,
Hi, it's Megan. How are you? Eddie gave me your e-mail, so I hope you don't mind that I'm writing to you. Actually, I have a problem I'm hoping you can help me with.
Eddie said you have experience with demons and monsters of all kinds. What do you know about monsters that live underneath beds? I cannot sense their minds but Paco's little brother Carlos insists that they are there and are merely invisible in the presence of light. Adult humans also seem to have difficulty seeing them. Since I am unsure if magical beings even have a consciousness that I would be able to sense I thought it would be best to ask someone who knows more than I do about monsters.
Please reply as soon as possible. It is dark, I lack protective foot gear, and I would like to get a glass of water.
- Megan
Eddie says Zach travels all over the world. Maybe wherever he is he'll still be awake...
