irritation...

i remember reading something awhile back, it must have been at least a few months ago, about slash and femslash. i don't remember if it was someone's lj entry or if it was an essay, an article, or what but i've just read something that reminded me of it and just how truly annoying it can be. "now what is she blathering on about?" i'm sure you're ( Read more... )

Best thing I can do is recommend you go read Gentry Green- Hogwarts Apprentices. I'll toss you a link if you are interested. Lisa has one of the best thought out and realistic HPverse stories around.
I hope your rl is getting better and of course I look forward to your next updates.

On adultfanfiction.net..
and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lisascribbles/
is the YahooGroup.

Adultfanfiction.net is a little easier to read, but the YahooGroup has very good author response and some other little goodies. This is one where several of the kids are very clearly straight and those that aren't are very realistic about it.
This is also one of my favorite portrayals of Harry.

Any word on Blood? et al?

cool thanks, what's the pairings for this fic anyway?

Blood's revised prologue should come out this week. i want to fix some of the wording in the latter part of it. i've already made it OotP compatible. i'm just tinkering with it at the moment.

Believe me, I have seen plenty of it in LotR and Angel/Buffy fanfics too.

Sometimes I can read those if they're decently written (or at least passably written) but you are right, sometimes it can be a bit too much when you get a fic that has four slash pairings piled into it just because the author doesn't seem to know when to stop (one particular LotR author, who admitedly is a good fallback when I want fluff, tends to be that way).

it happens a lot in the Star Trek fandoms too. that's where i was reading when i came across one that slashed everyone. i don't read Angel or Buffy (didn't like either show) but i have heard that slashing everyone happens very frequently in that fandom so it doesn't surprise me that you said that. i am sort of surprised about the LotR fandom because it seems like every fic in it is Mary Sue. i tried reading in that fandom but all the Mary Sues pissed me off. however, if you have a good rec with no Mary Sues, i'll read it.

The No Longer series is good, Elladan/Elrohir twincest. I have a copy on my own site.
Folly of Starlight is practically epic, it's hosted on Ithilas.com as are some of the works of Helmboy which are pretty good.

The two slash archives I usually look through are Library of Moria and Melethryn. LoM is a general slash archive, Melethryn is dedicated to elfslash so at least one half of the pairing will be an elf.

Some of Orchyd Constyne's writings can be found on Melethryn, they're pretty good reading.
The author with the tendency to pile pairings in that I mentioned is Morgana, she keeps her own archive but her works can also be found at the two archives I have mentioned. I like them for fluff reading mainly.

'Harry Potter is dating Severus Snape, who use to date Lucius Malfoy, but when they split up Lucius Malfoy married Narcissa who was really in love with Poppy Pomfrey, who is the mentor of Hermione Granger, who is sleeping with Minerva McGonagall, who is the godmother of Fred Weasley, who is sleeping with his twin George Weasley, who is helping Ron Weasley keep his relationship with Draco Malfoy a secret because their father Aurthur Weasley has never gotten over his unrequited love of Sirius Black, who is at this moment shagging Remus Lupin.... etc, etc, etc.'

*snickers* well thats certainly a mouth full

Hi, I don't know if this is being kind of violating or anything since we don't exactly know each other but I'm an author of fanfiction.net and a friend of mine has been raving about your story Blood, so I decided to check you out for myself. She also peeked my interest by mentioning that you enjoy most of the same fandoms as I do (her love lies only in the Harry Potter realm of slash, mostly Harry Potter/Severus Snape). Anyway, I was curious to see what you were like as a person (since stories aren't always an easy reflection on their authors) and your latest post intruiged me because I have always wondered the same thing. In most every fanfiction I have ever read, either everyone is gay (and flamboyently so) or straight (without even the mention of homosexuality). I have found few fanfictions that were realistic in their depiction of homosexual pairings and those tend to be epic length and though I enjoy them tremendously, I rarely have the time or the interest to read such long chapters and/or stories. And since I myself am bisexual ( ... )

Hi

I came this way from ff.net and saw this very interesting rant.

I agree with you. It really annoys me when people slash everyone and seem unable to stop. Also the tendency that everyone has to be paired up. I kind of miss the singles. If anyone were to write realistic fiction it would feature a small portion of gay people and the rest straight and of course in both groups would be single people. That's how real life works.
It doesn't make you homophobic not slashing everyone.

Anyway, any word on Blood?

Best regards
Anna

the word on Blood is: it's coming along, i hope to have it finished in the next few days, and then sent to the betas, so hopefully it will be out in a week or two. ::prays nothing goes wrong with this plan:: :)
