Cos, y'know, everyone's doing it:

Put a number in the comments and I’ll answer accordingly. The mission for those of us who answer the questions, should we accept it, is to stay positive about our writing and ourselves, but to also be fair about our shortcomings.1. Of the fic you’ve written, of which are you most proud ( Read more... )

Angst has always been a particular favourite of mine (oh, aren't I cheerful! ;-D) But I do love writing about people poised at crossroads, having to make a life-changing decision ("Rimmer's Return"); awkward situations ("Father to the Thought"); and gunp0rn ("Blurry"/"Rimmer's Return").

I always write in the past tense. I used to hate writing alternatives during 'Fiction Writing' class at uni. *shudder*

Hehe! Past tense is always a good choice, it just feels right.

OH YOU WOULD. ;-)

This extract (HIGHLY unpolished, so please forgive me) is from Becoming 'Dad' - an AU fic that wonders "What if Rimmer found out that Yvonne was pregnant with his child before she left Red Dwarf? What if, when she resigned and left the ship, he followed her?

****

“Smegging hell! Did you know that - when fully dilated - a woman’s cervix stretches to 10cm?”

Yvonne rocked from foot to foot, grinding down the tiles with each step. Taking a deep drag on the gas and air, she wrenched away the mouthpiece with audible reluctance, fighting to keep her voice measured.

“Arnold?”

“Hmm?”

“Put the book down before I insert it somewhere that renders you fully dilated. This is not the time for last-minute revision.”

“Right. Of course.”

Rimmer stashed away his copy of Surviving the First Year and scuttled across to the bed where his ex-colleague/unconfirmed-partner/imminent-mother-of-his-child stood.

He remembered Chapter 3 well. Birth - How to Help Your Partner Cope. It had been well-thumbed and well-deliberated in his ( ... )

I think as long as it's done out of kindness and it's constructive then I'm all for it. I see it as a point of debate - you may not agree with it. Or sometimes (like has happened a few years ago) someone picked me up on my long sentence length. I remember thinking "Oh yeah, she's right!" and since that point, have strived to check myself on it. :-)

Interesting. I haven't really had much concrit. I don't know whether that's because I'm just average or what.

I should probably take it as a compliment. ;) I'm not really a competitive writer; I do it for fun. :)

I'd take that as a compliment! ^__^

That's the only piece of concrit I've had that I recall and that has stuck with me. And I'm damn grateful for it.

Oooh tricksy! :-) I'm very proud of my 'Ace Chronicles', as it's taken almost five years to date to draw together through a series of fics (from June 2009 - present). Out of those, I guess I would say "Rimmer's Return" for a complete fic but I'm pleased with the WIP of "Cosmic Castaway: The New Divide".

In terms of slash, I rather like "No Other Blue" - mostly because of the positive reception it received. ^__^
