Homemade muesli is my newest discovery. It is another one of those recipes where you can just use what you have, and it's even easier than granola! For this, I did toast the oats, coconut and nuts just to add a little bit of toasty flavor ( Read more... )

I have never made it and probably will never make it (just cause I don't cook or even mix things together very often) but I would like some of that right now!

I've eaten a lot of müsli in my days, sometimes with yogurt but usually with the local sour milk called filmjölk. I like how filling müsli is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filmj%C3%B6lk

My beau makes his own müsli and eats it with milk and fruit. It's a mix of rolled oats, flax seeds, oat brans, buckwheat and possibly something else with lots of fibers, sometimes with nuts if we have them. He just puts all of it in a can and shakes. Done! :)

Oh, and I've always just put it in the bowl when it was time to eat. I've never heard of soaking it before.

Great to know! I think you of all people would know the ins and out of this! People are so snotty about EVERYTHING. I also read some people like to put a grated up apple in it. That sounds really good to me, too.

Hehe, suppose so. I get that you might want to soften it, but it's absolutely not necessary. A grated apple sounds good! Patrik often cuts up half an apple or half a banana or adds raspberry jam or honey. Something sweet anyway.

I just got them in the health food section of a grocery store! Maybe Shaws? I honestly think they are kind of strange and bought them on a whim, and this is a perfect way to use them up! They don’t taste like anything to me but mixed with liquid they get all mucous-y. But like you said they apparently have good protein and other stuff!

We don't have Shaws (or hannaford!) here... But I'll check in the health food aisle at our local Shoprite.

My grandparents eat musli every day, they use yogurt and let it sit over night. It's basically oats and raisins and flax seeds (some other stuff I don't remember) and then they add fresh fruit in the morning.

When we stayed with a friend in Austria we had a long discussion about musli - he eats it with hot milk, but his girlfriend (now wife) thinks that is gross and eats it with cold milk, like regular cereal. No fruit involved in that household.

Used to have it in Germany when I lived there - they usually soaked it overnight in buttermilk or yogurt, but plain was not considered unacceptable :) It's really do-your-own-thing :) --Marguerite (dangandblast@gmail.com)
