I was nervous due to some level of insecurity that I have not yet eliminated from my thought process combined with the fact that it was a new experience and I had no control or choice over who bought me. On reflection, maybe it was more about the lack of choice than the bidding as such, but both were a factor.

Believe me, I have been there a million times. Dax showed me that becoming a good listener IS a way to engage and not clam up. Whenever you don't know what to say, just ask a question instead. Try to start a dialogue with the people you are with.
