I completely understand the feeling as I am often mistaken for a 20-year-old. If people want attention, it's best to recieve positive attention and to zone out negative attention (as I have had experience with both, positive is the way to go).
Some people would argue with you, wondering why you would act more mature than you are but that's not a problem. It's only a problem if you act on it completely. I know a girl who continues to sleep with her boyfriend and she is only about fifteen-years-old. That is when maturity becomes a problem.
Does society force people to grow up to fast? A debatable question that leads us to this specific post of yours. A post about, attention, appreciation and maturity.
And thus, a want for positive attention.
Sorry if this doesn't make any sense but you should be able to get the gist of it. :)
Why is it you fall fast? And they look at you like you meant to hit your face on the ground? Why is it the older ones frown upon the ones who are trying to survive? Why is it people judge the young? Our society is full of leaders and followers... Is there not an in between?? Why is it when I watch you fall? I want to laugh like the others? I want to "fit in" and make a joke out of your suffering Then tell lies with my "friends" of how you are just an attention seeker When I know and feel and breathe your living pain I want to pick you up and tell you I know you're hurting But again, you are forced to hear me "hate" you I wish you could realize I'm sorry
Inspiration struck when I read your poem. Figured I'd make you one replying to it. :) :) :)

PS- Check my site, I'll be posting it on there as well. :)
the world is evolving. so are its people. when i saw you, you looked 12. I understand the "fitting in" part. I tried to and people got annoyed so i just sank back into the hole of quietness. -Lian-
