I've just finished watching the pairs long on the CCTV5 feed, after spending the men's short in the Johnny's Angels chat room, and my head is flying.
I started to wonder yesterday if my bad week was extending to all the skaters I was supporting doing badly. Now it turns out it just extends to them getting beaten. 60 points in the OD is nothing for Tanith and Ben to be ashamed of, but it seems the Russian backroom people have successfully engineered another takeover. Either that, or Dom and Shabs have gotten a *lot* better than they were when I last watched them. And of course, Johnny. Oh, Johnny. I can't wait to see the performance; I'll be running over to fsvids and YouTube as soon as I'm done with this entry. Two tenths below his personal best, and everyone raving. And then Evan(who I know put a hand down on the combo) somehow gets 81 points?! What gives? And oh, Stephane. The angels were crying in the chatroom over you, even though we knew it would help Johnny escape third. Though I'm afraid I can't even cheer for you to pull up in the long, because that's Evan's territory; I don't think Johnny can beat him there, especially with the judges showing this kind of favoritism(how were Evan's PCS scores higher than Johnny's? How?)and if Evan must beat Johnny, I know which one of you I must want to win silver. You can win Cup of Russia and then all three of you can go to the Finale(I assume he'll stay on the podium. He's Stephane).
I was so distressed I was initially distracted while watching the pairs, but not enough to not notice there was a regular splatfest going on. I remember cheering on Miller and Moram to win the bronze after both the two young Chinese pairs fell apart, watching as they fell three times and he probably forfeited the death spiral by failing to get fully into position, and feeling really sad because they'd probably just blown their big chance to win a Grand Prix medal. And then they finished ten points ahead of both Chinese pairs anyway! They looked *really* happy. Then come two Romeo and Juliets in a row(we need a moratorium declared on that music pronto), McLaughlin and Brubaker continually hitting the ice(one fall looked pretty nasty too), but of course they won silver anyway because there was noone else left to win it. And then Pang and Tong. May we have some applause please, for Pang and Tong? I don't know if I was a fan of them before this, but after watching them say "Screw this" and blow the roof off the building, I know I am now! Congratulations on an well-earned-even-when-it-didn't-have-to-be gold and the second lock on the Finale of the series.
