In which Gossip Girl can go suck on Calvin Klein

I'm pretty sure this won't come as a surprise to anyone, but apparently Americans are reading less books than ever. It doesn't really surprise me, given the reign of reality television and the push of newer technology, like the internet. God knows I haven't read nearly as much as I used to do in high school and junior high. But what also bothers me ( Read more... )

YES! I agree. I have seen my students reading those text message books and they make me INSANE. And worse yet is that a lot of these books are being turned into movies or TV shows and kids aren't even bothering to read the shitty books they are based on. Fuck Twilight, BTW. I am SO angry that shit is being made into a movie. There were so many amazing children's classics that could be made into a movie and they picked that? Ugh.

My head was always in to books as a child. Now I just go to the library for my fix.

Haha! Hotlanta! I got that for free with a recent promotion I did! I have not opened it once though.

I randomly wandered over here from lafeemechante's journal, and I just wanted to say,

THANK YOU! this is exactly how I feel about young kids and books today. I work in a toy/book store, and it pains me when girls come in and *only* want to buy twilight, and haven't even heard of something like tuck everlasting. Sigh.

And artemis fowl? A boy returned the first novel to the store a couple days ago saying that he already read the manga and 'it was better'.

youth today, huh?

It should be required to read Tuck Everlasting after reading Twilight. If only so teens could get the fact that living life is more important than fantasizing about an undead boyfriend and hating the fact that you're getting old, ew. As much as the ending of that book makes me sad, it's the right ending.

And stupid Artemis Fowl manga. Those books are awesome. I'm 21, and I still geeked out like a nerdy kid with Eternity Code.
