ocupational hazard

this is what happens when you are tired and get lazy with your knife skills while using a very sharp knife to cut broccoli for soup

this happened on saturday. i spent three hours in the ED because the nurse was hoping to stitch me up and send me back to work, but some how i had managed to cut behind the nail. it seems i moved it out of the way with the knife and it moved back to it's normal spot, which happened to be over the cut which is nearly all the way through. i had to see a surgeon and the head of the ED to work out how the hell they were going to fix it. one option was to take my whole nail off, and stitch it back on, but there is no guarantee that the flesh will take anyway or that my nail would grow back. so i have a piece of nail, and a piece of flesh holding it on, with the help of some strips and bandages.
i was all "stitch me up send me back to work" they were all "you are off work until wednesday" much to my work mates and locals suprise, i went back to work and not only finished my kitchen shift, i also helped out in the bar. i am really good at making finger condoms now (thumb of a rubber glove insulation taped to my thumb)
when i got the dressings changed at the docs, they noticed a bit of color in the tip, so i might no lose it yet. i hope not, i would rather a cool scar than a misshapen thumb lol
so, word of advice, get more sleep and TUCK YOUR THUMB IN WHEN USING A SHARP KNIFE.

i more amusing news: i found a note under the icing sugar at work tonight "sweet cheeks :)"

work, the thumb incident, random notes, occupational hazard, kathi is an idiot
