My Taste in Books

Before I go into my books I'd like to explain my tastes. I generally read Fantasy. I haven't really any interest in Science Fiction but if its close enough to fantasy and not too science-y it might catch my interest (ex: Tanith Lee's Cladi Chronicles or whatever). I do have some reservations within the Fantasy category though. I'm really really really NOT a fan of "20th century kid discovers magical world" kind of books. Harry Potter is an exception b/c it successfully leads me to forget that he lives in our day and age for the vast majority of the book. Another exception is Inkheart and Inkspell. They are amazing! And another example of books that do not exude modern society. I really don't care to read about the plight of the average modern teenager or preteen. If a fantasy book has a love story its a plus but love stories are not necessary. I don't really enjoy very graphic love stories either. Sorry I prefer real life for that sort of thing. I don't enjoy evil/demonic fantasy books (I had a really bad experience with a book I bought from my library's cast offs). Historical fantasy is not exactly a favorite but some have been okay/good. Um... what else... Oh yeah and I am not really a fan of books that get a lot of hype like Wicked. (I don't really like things that get a lot of hype in general. IE the movie Titanic). Again Harry Potter is an exception. I just got caught by that one. I think that's it. I'm really picky. And extremely biased in my reading choices. And if its description on Amazon isn't too hot I probably won't read it unless lots of people recommend it. Also, sometimes I just don't feel like reading certain types of books. I go through weird book reading moods; probably one of the many joys of being female. I guess I'm kind of rambly tonight. I'm stopping now. And now I'm resuming the rambling... I also realise that a lot of the books I've read thus far have been YA books but to me what age it was written for doesn't really matter if its written well. Some books are very youth oriented and it shows... Sometimes that bugs me and sometimes it doesn't... I usually refer to that as YA-ish. I've got to figure out a better way of explaining my book tastes... This is too long.

Onto the Books!
