i'll post as long as we have power! honestly Las, we'll be fine. last year we went through a few of these, and we don't expect this one to do much except bring a lot of rain. of course, those could be my famous last words.... =)
they expect it to be a "rain event" rather than a "wind event", meaning 5-10 inches of rain or more and possible flooding, but not a lot of wind (so less tress flying through your roof). i expect minimal damage here.
I agree with you that this storm will probably be nothing. Having lived in South Florida my entire life, I've seen the social effects of storms on people. First, the majority of people think they're invincible, not doing any preparations for the storm. This works for a few years until there's a particularly strong storm (Andrew) or a particularly strong season (2005). The following years people are cuh-razy trying to get "prepared". After a couple season of being prepared and having very little storm damage people get complacent again, until there's another reason to jolt them. Right now people are in the cuh-razy stage. At the worst this is going to be a Cat. 1, and it's likely that it won't even be a hurricane when it hits us (and I'm further north of you, with even less of a chance of keeping the strong winds). Like you we're prepared, but I'm not very worried.
i'm taking it with a grain of salt. i want to be prepared, but shouldn't candles, batteries, water, charcoal, gas, and cash be things that EVERY South Flroidian should have at all times? there wasn't much we needed to get at the store except tequila. *grin*
