dorm

So after what feels like years of preparing, collecting, packing and then unpacking an array of crap, I've finally finished moving into my swanky dorm room.

Here's the bedroom, or more accurately, the bed. The comforter was designed by Marimekko. I love how obnoxiously green it is! Plus, it's the softest, squishiest thing ever.

The clock, which sits on the dresser.

A mirror I found at a yard sale.

Okay! Now let's go nextdoor, into the living room type place. The wondrously obnoxious chair covers started life as a multipurpose bedspread/tapestry thingy from Urban Outfitters, and were cut and hemmed by a seamstress. If I were truly awesome, I would have been able to do it myself, but yeah. I'm not.

The ottoman, owls and teapot came from various junk stores, the tabletop was made by my grandfather, and the lamps came from a yard sale. They used to have foofy little lace covers on their plastic shades, but that was just a little too much, even for me. I traced the original covers onto some plain white fabric salvaged from a nightgown, cut them out painstakingly (yet still crookedly, haha), and there you have it. The matching lamp is on my desk, back in the bedroom.

This is not the last owl you'll see in this entry!

These are.

It still kind of looks like a prison because it's a dorm room, but overall, not so bad. I like the 60s theme that emerged as I was buying stuff (it wasn't really planned) and I'm proud that I didn't waste embarrassing amounts of Mommy and Daddy's money to decorate the place.
Meanwhile, it's been quiet here so far, but that's probably because everyone hasn't moved in yet. I'm just waiting for them to unroll the vodka water slide in the hallway. After all, this is supposed to be a party school.
