...possibly a silly question, but does your laptop have a monitor port? Does it have a removable hard drive? I just would hate for you to lose your info when really all thats wrong is that the screen is unreadable.

That is the only thing that's wrong. I already know it's only the screen that's broken, but it's the whole laptop that I will miss... as one unit.

Might also be worth checking to see if you can buy one on ebay or something - a lot of times you can buy a laptop with a bad motherboard where the screen is still fine for ~$100ish.

There doesn't appear to be one on ebay for a decent price. They have some used for 300 or so, but the little netbooks are 300 too, and they are faster.

Yeah, that sucks... I had that happen to a laptop of mine years and years ago. Now I have to tether it to use it (though I did consider making it into a carputer or wearable).
