Scene: playing with Lego. He has built a Lego spaceship, and populated it with a couple of minifigures, one one of whom he declares to be Princess Leia from Star Wars, and the other to be a doctor. The doctor is there because Leia is sick, and has also, he adds as an apparently afterthought, just given birth to a baby.

On nights like this, I'm very thankful for the ability to make up stories on the fly. Little A has gotten wise to the technique of reading books aloud in a soothing voice to put him to sleep, and now when he doesn't want to sleep, he often won't let me read to him, and if I pick up a book, he'll smack it out of my hands ( Read more... )

Our visit with my mother & stepfather up north is going well. Aidan got a physics kit for Christmas (from them), which he is thoroughly enchanted with, plus a little set of hanging planets (from me) which he insisted on hanging up here even though he'll just have to take it down tomorrow.

Deeply annoyed with bike repair shops today. Or two of them, at least.
