Eri Yoshida Artwork

I can't believe I forgot to post about this! Well... I guess I can. I was avoiding making any posts until after the giant wedding post was done.

Anyway, look at this! I did this set of artwork for Fox Sports the week after I got home from Dances of Vice! I haven't gotten paid yet though, so I need to remember to call and ask them about that ( Read more... )

The outfits you designed were great!

And yeah, that commentary was really sexist -_-;
Awesome that a girl is in pro baseball, not so cool for the writer to turn her into an object only there to adhere to the fantasies of others.

But like I said: nice art, cute outfits :]

Thanks so much~ I hate that what they said made the outfits seem much much worse than they are. I really was trying to stick with things that were a bit more tasteful. ^^;

I hope this doesn't come off sounding like a rabid feminist, but do the majority of the outfits have to be so... skimpy? The drawings are really cute, and this is really good exposure, but I feel it's a little disrespectful to over-sexualize her and play into the school girl fetish. I don't imply that she can't look feminine, but does she have to be a sex kitten? She's only 17 afterall. It's such a rarity for a woman to get so far in professional sport, especially in Japan, and this undermines her respectability by reducing her to some novelty item or token mascot girl.

I know I'm probably overreacting to something just for fun, but I can personally relate to trying to succeed in a male dominated profession.

Yeah, I thought so too. Cute outfits and great artwork, but combined with that commentary...problematic.

Were there more designs and FOX (surprise, surprise and I'm sorry it had to be them) just picked the ones they liked (which were *coincidentally* also the skimpiest)?

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I'm just curious... Are you saying that a woman's sexuality is incompatible with her respectability?

Also, I would argue that she IS a novelty item. Just like, for example, our current president is in many ways a novelty item. It's the fate of pioneers in any genre to not be taken entirely seriously, but their bearing the brunt of the world's stereotypes and criticism helps to pave the way for others to follow in their footsteps.

Is that how I would like it in an ideal world? Of course not. It's not fair and it's not right, and I wish things were different. =\

Again, none of that was intended disrespectfully, and I have the utmost admiration for women trying to succeed in male-dominated professions.

Thanks~ I know, right? I don't think Jenna wrote that stuff either. ~_~

Did you actually call me? I don't think you did. When shall we chat?

Yeah, noooo, I didn't call. I got sick. Let's chat next week when my voice doesn't sound like I gargled with cacti and acid.

The artwork is cute but those captions are ridiculously sexist and racist. "Aye sailor?" SERIOUSLY?

I was really disappointed with the captions, and I really feel they give the images a whole different spirit than the one I was pitched ( ... )
