On top of everything else, these guys used electric hair clippers, which would indicate that it's not about strict adherence to the rules. Not that this sort of thing ever is, no matter what the people who have gone off the rails say. The rules are only ever an excuse.
Me too! I was talking to someone who thought the guy who went into an Amish schoolhouse and shot girls a couple years ago was Amish, and I was like, no, he was just a local guy -- the big Amish crime wave is that there's a breakaway sect, and they're cutting other people's hair.
Yes, that was some non-Amish guy. I can't imagine a mind that wakes up one day and says, "I'm pissed off. I think I'll kill a bunch of little kids."
I've lived in areas with Amish populations, and usually the rebels get arrested for drunk driving, which is actually less dangerous when they're completely intoxicated, because then the horse takes over. Sometimes, if they just get a buzz, they can cause bad accidents.
