Caucus post

Well, our caucus was boring. There were more people than I expected, and I wound up working to sign people in and register a handful of new voters. I have been drafted to attend the county convention, but may pass that job off to an alternate. Obama called in live, but I was busy sorting the sign in forms and just listened from outside the door ( Read more... )

It's been crazy all along. I think it just hit surreal.

I fell asleep when I got home and woke up to Santorum babbling about his wife and God and stuff.

Well, your theory that Bachmann was only in Iowa to sell books seems to have been validated. So, yay?

Did you see Gingrich? His ego, which is bigger than Iowa, has been damaged, and he's going to attack Romney and Paul out of nothing but spite. And Perry and Bachmann's people will line up behind Santorum for the short term. It's going to be a nasty few months.

I am now amusing myself by renaming Santorum as Rick the Jacobean.

He is a Biblical literalist, I think, but he's Catholic, so not the KJV. He's more medieval than Jacobean, but I do like the sound of it.

Eight votes in it.

Am I being too hopeful here in thinking it's not looking too good for the Republicans?

Rick wants to outlaw contraception. Once the female portion of the electorate assimilates that fact, I think his support is going to drop.

But Gingrich, who is the most egotistical man in the world, has declared war against Paul and Romney, and the other crazy-eyed, stammering lunatics are dropping out, so Santorum may be able to stick around for a while, damaging Romney.

The amazing thing is that with all his money and our horrible campaign laws, Romney has still not managed to buy his way to the top.

It IS amazing. And good.

Fortunately, he doesn't seem like someone the right can really get behind, which is good for Obama. And maybe with a second term (one that's not fraught with cigars and blue dresses and Linda fucking Tripp), he could really do something.

I think what needs to happen is a change in Congress. If the OWS people can have the kind of impact the Tea Partiers had last election cycle, maybe Obama can accomplish more.

I have an unusual problem with your current politics - although I read Ron Paul, in my mind I always see Ru Paul...

I'd be more likely to vote for Ru Paul.
