What's really shocking to me is the US health care system, in which a private charity has to fund another private charity to provide basic services.

Here in Australia screening mammograms are free for women over 40.

It's one of those horrible things that we're so used to we hardly notice it. Maybe this latest scandal will increase people's awareness, but we still hear screaming about "Obamacare," as if trying to make sure everyone is insured is the epitome of evil. We're so far from a decent single-payer system it makes me weep.

Did you hear about the Canadian snowboarder? She was severely injured at a half pipe in the US, and after a week of coma and multiple tests and surgeries, sadly she died.

And then her family in Canada was presented with a bill for over $100,000.

(Her fans raised the money for her bill, but good God, that say it all, doesn't it?)

I get emails from AFA and that stupid "Million Moms" group. I haven't unsubscribed because it's good to know your enemy, but the amount of vitriol and misinformation they spout is amazing. The latest is that they want everyone to call JC Penney and object because Ellen is their new spokesperson. A country full of poor people without healthcare and they cheer, a harmless ad campaign and they turn rabid.
