Absolutely. They will do nothing to stop abortions, and everything to take power from women. I remember the world pre-Roe v Wade. The women and kids with money, including girls at the Catholic school I attended, got their abortions safely and quietly. Others risked death or permanent injury.

They will go down on their "let poor women die" ship?

That's all I got.

The "Jezebels," not "poor women." All poor women, especially those who have sex, are inherently unclean. That's what it comes down to from where I sit. Because women with money will always be able to get abortions as well as other health care, and, of course, THEY only have abortions for really good reasons, like Santorum's wife.

I understand and agree with the Santorums' decision in that case. It infuriates me that they are unable to call it by its name and allow the same rights to everyone else.

I suspect this decision is going to be too little, too late, as you said alienating both sides.

I've never been a big Komen donor - a few bucks whenever someone I knew walked for them - and I only bought "pink" when that's what was available (mostly yogurt). I was vaguely aware of some criticism but never followed it up.

Now I've reviewed their fiscals and seen how little goes to research compared how much goes to admin/salaries and fundraising. I've read about how they lobbied to weaken the healthcare act and worked to stall or kill the Breast Cancer & Environmental Research Act.

Bottom line, I'm actively boycotting anything with a pink ribbon and consciously donating to other groups working on women's health care. If I get a chance, I'm also letting corporations know what I'm doing.

And I suspect that I'm not alone.

I didn't give to them because I didn't like what I saw at Charity Navigator, but that's true of a lot of organizations. Before now, I thought they were just spending too much on administration and salaries. This has really opened my eyes.

It's going to be really interesting to see what happens to sales of those pink ribbon items over the next few months. I feel sorry for companies that partnered with them. Well, except for KFC and those handgun people.

I love the "but PP doesn't do mammograms so Komen should just pay for that" crazies. Yeah, because you can just walk into a hospital and get a mammogram without a referral and a health care provider who will follow up with you. If they can't do the actual procedure, PP pays for the mammogram and provides the patient care. What would a poor woman do with a radiologist report and nothing else?

No man can serve two masters, and all that. They're just going to have to resign themselves to making someone mad, and suck it up.

They've made everyone mad now. And it's not as if they are the only game in town. The crazy thing is they knew there would be problems, but they thought they could keep it quiet. From a NYT article today:

“We didn’t tell anyone except Planned Parenthood,” Mr. Raffaelli said. “We wanted to keep it quiet. We didn’t intend for this to be perceived as a victory for anybody. The whole approach was to not issue press releases to do anything to hurt Planned Parenthood.”

Aw, it was PP they didn't want to hurt!
