Gay people are too responsible to be allowed to marry

That's the stand of the U.S. House of Representatives, according to the legal brief they provided to the Supreme Court.

Marriage should be limited to unions of a man and a woman because they alone can "produce unplanned and unintended offspring," opponents of gay marriage have told the Supreme Court...

Um...what? I mean, really, what?

These people who insist that "it's all about the children" don't seem to recognize that marriage is a good inherent unto itself that has nothing to do with procreation. What about the infertile couples, or those who choose not to have children? What about the older couples who marry and are past child-bearing age? And wouldn't it be better if all children were wanted and planned for?

Really, this stance is so far beyond moronic, I cannot even.

And we paid for it! This was produced by the lawyers the House hired because the Obama administration wouldn't defend Prop 8 or DOMA.

Hmm - so any of us who planned our offspring are bringing marriage into disrepute then? Or something.

My brain hurts and I will have to go and lie down.

Probably in the marital bed. Where I am most unlikely to accidentally produce any unplanned offspring, so deepening my felony....

If only I'd known, I wouldn't have waited until we were reasonably financially secure and certain we wanted kids before having mine.
