Here I go again

I have, yet again, become the feminist of the group. This time it's of my British Literature group.
The tutor asked who liked Jane Eyre (both the story and the character) and who didn't. He then proceeded to ask one of the guys (who didn't like it), if he didn't like it because it was written from a woman's perspective, with a female protagonist.

Thank you for this awesome post! I, too, also find myself in situations where I am the only person expressing the feminist viewpoint. I think the stuff I feel is all common sense (nothing radical like "all sex is rape!"), but people will be like, "there she goes again!"

I totally agree that I dislike characters because of how they act, not because they're male or female or the opposite gender of me. Anyway, just know you're cool and they're not. End of story.

And thank you for calling this an awesome post! If my feminist online friends and I ever build that compound we talk about sometimes, you're more than welcome to come live with us. We'll churn our own butter, caterwaul about the patriarchy and braid each other's hair while watching Clive Owen films. It's going to be a blast!

Actually, I do that too. I think Jane Eyre is a good example of that. In the beginning, it's her righteousness that pisses me off, but later it's just a more general STFU JANE YOU PISSY GIRL!

The Brontes in general can all die in a fire, as far as I'm concerned.

Lady, I feel you. Yesterday the tutor also mention Wuthering Heights and some of the girls sighed and were all "ooooh, that's even better than JE" and I was all WTF NO IT'S VICTORIAN TWILIGHT.

Also, too many of my classmates referred to Rochester as their "perfect husband". Yes, the dude who puts you down and is trying to absorb you is perfect. If your perfect husband is a middle-aged Edward Cullen without the sparkle.
