Kevin Rudd can make as many promises as he likes, say "yes" to everyone, be a slave to the unions... anything. In fact he could possibly propose libertarian policies (doubtful, but possible). Labor (no "u" in the name of the party) actually left a pretty good economy last time. John Howard himself has said as much.

Most economists are of the opinion it was the reforms of Hawke and Keating that made the biggest contribution to the current strong state of the economy.
