so things continue to be rad over on this coast. i still can't seem to fall asleep before 2am but that's ok. i'm getting familiar with the métro and my french is clearly improving, so i'm happy. but anyway,

1. delicious fresh croissant this morning with an iced mocha. no more taking chances with moldy danishes thank you very much.

2. went out to this irish pub for dinner last night with manu & two of his friends (the pub was their choice), and then they drove me to the show and bailed on me. turns out they were all too wrecked from partying the night before to do so again.

3. the show was so rad though. the opening band the grates rocked the house, the singer had so much energy and just bounced around like crazy and jumped like 2 feet in the air from a standing position every few seconds. she also pulled out one of those ribbon-y things that they use in rhythmic gymnastics. pretty rad. then immaculata machine played and they totally blew me away. they've definitely improved since i last saw them, and they were good before so there you go. they even sang two of their songs in french which i thought was really thoughtful, and wished everyone a happy st. jean, even though i'm pretty sure most of the crowd were english hipsters. it warmed my heart. though i wanted to stay and party, i also wanted to catch the last métro home so i scurried off after the show and was back at the house by 1am. so not a super eventful st.jean, but a good one nonetheless.

4. totally stepped in barf on the way home, which was kinda unfortunate. obviously someone else had a more eventful night than me.

5. manu & i are supposed to do something more exciting tomorrow night with some friends. while he's pretty nice and is being really helpful, he's a bit sexist. he keeps warning everyone that i'm a feminist and also keeps making these broad generalizations about girls (like that we're all hypocrites, umm?), so that gets a bit tiring. he also keeps calling me punk or goth, for reasons i don't really understand, and he insists on speaking to me in english, even though 9 out of 10 times i reply in french. good thing we aren't really hanging out too much.

6. on a similar topic, i don't know if it's just him and his friends, or everyone here, but people seem to live with their parents for a really long time. he just moved out this month, and is 27, and both his friends that i met, who are 26, still live at home. and so does his girlfriend and his brother, who are both in their early 20s. that kinda blows my mind. like, i can't imagine still living at home at 27. yikes!

7. anyway, went to le village (aka the gay village) today to check things out. it's total boy city over there, i could probably count on one hand the number of ladies i saw. maybe there's another village for the girls, but if so, i have no idea where. nonetheless, it was kinda cool, much like vancouver's west end though. lots of bars & restaurants and fancy men's clothing stores. even a gay tim horton's with the biggest, gayest, rainbow triangles i've ever seen!

8. i spent too much money on this really really cute dress though. i figure i'm on vacation though, so i'm supposed to spend money on whimsical things.

9. stumbled upon a big park where they were celebrating national aborginal day (well i don't know if it's national or just in québec actually) and i stayed to watch some really amazing traditional dances and stuff. i tried not to cringe too visibly as white folks insisted on taking pictures of people in their traditional gear, and i sort of avoided answering when a friendly old lady sitting beside me asked "oh, are you interested in natives too?" good thing we have this day for all the white people to show their love for first nations people!! christ.

10. in sad news, the first ever gay bar i went to that was here (when i was visiting with my first-ever girlfriend about 8 years ago), where incidently i won a bottle of champagne in a karaoke contest, is no longer here. how sad. i was planning on going there damnit!

11. but i'm getting hungry and i should go make some food. manu is stealing his computer back soon (i'm staying at his parents house & he's bringing it to his new place) so i wanted to take advantage of the internet while i could. until next time lovelies, xoxox.

ps - it's already weird for me to write this much in english cuz i've already gotten used to communicating in french like 85% of the time.
