Is it possible to switch them all to a lo-calorie food, without starving the other two? We feed "ad libitum," leaving food out all the time, and allowing the cat(s) to self-regulate. This has worked up till now. HOWEVER, we don't have indoor-only cats (well, right NOW we do, but this will probably change at some point), so they tended to get more exercise. When we had to feed Ernie the special UR diet, we just fed it to Alex as well. It was more expensive, but it wouldn't hurt him, and might be helpful (since he was also a neutered male). I'm thinking that it's POSSIBLE that the boy cat only overeats because of a sense of "competition"--if there were food all the time, and he didn't have to elbow the other cats out of the way to get it, he might eat less. Perhaps you could try a modified version of that--basic food out all the time, but then special treats fed separately, where the other cats get more, and he gets less of a low-calorie option ( ... )
